Along with his siblings, Billy Calderwood grew up memorizing long passages of Scripture word-for-word set to music. At a young age, Billy had already memorized many chapters of the Bible.  Michael Calderwood, Billy’s Dad, a musician and songwriter, would repurpose melodies like “Edelweiss” and “Row-Row-Row Your Boat,” as well as create original melodies with word-for-word Bible passages for lyrics.  When Billy and Kristin had their own kids, they continued the tradition.  Sadly, Michael Calderwood passed away in 2008 but his Scripture Songs continue on in the minds and memories of the many who learned them, allowing for instant recall of numerous Bible passages almost effortlessly.  

 

After 30 years in both pastoral ministry and denominational leadership, Billy came to recognize that spending a mere ten minutes teaching someone a scripture song they will remember for a lifetime can have far greater impact than preaching dozens of sermons they will likely forget.  A profound encounter with God while visiting the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. helped cement his decision to step out of his denominational role and devote himself full-time to developing KSS as a resource that serves everyone who desires to memorize the Bible.
